Wine of the Month
There are so many different wines available, one has no hope of covering them all. A quality wine of the month club, fortunately, can do all the hard work for you.
What is a wine of the month club? Well, they are all unique, but have some basic characteristics that are always the same. The first is they send you wine once a month in the mail. The wine comes with a write up discussing the characteristics, history and so on. You then sit back to your hearts content and do some tasting. There are, however, variations to this seemingly simple process.
The first thing to understand is there are a herd of wine of the month clubs. Some send you only reds. Some restrict you to only whites. Some do a mix of both. Some send you only two bottles, some go with 12. Heck, some have expanded into other areas such as Tequila of the Month clubs. If you join this one, I also highly recommend you join the Aspirin of the Month club as well!
With variation comes cost factors. Wine clubs are infamous for trying to lock you into a commitment. I recommend you avoid this. Try to go with a month-to-month deal. That way, you aren't locked into drinking questionable wine from a club for a long period of time. A club sending good wine should be willing to rest on its laurels, which means foregoing requiring a commitment on your part.
So, is the wine of the month concept a good one to try? It sounds a bit hokey, but is actually pretty good. For a relatively nominal cost, you are exposed to wines you likely would never come across. Even better, the vino is delivered right to your door. In this rat race world we live in, that is a pretty nice convenience.
