Wine Regions of Spain

Curious about the wine regions of Spain? If so, this article will help you to learn about all the wonderful bottles that this country has to offer.

The wine regions of Spain are referred to a “denominaciones,” which is similar to the appellations within France. Thus, the denominaciones are Denominacion de Pago, Denominacion de Origen Calificada, Denominacion de Origen, Vine de Calidad Producio en Region Determinada, Vino de la Tierra, and Vino de Mesa. In a lot of ways, Spanish wines have still not been completely discovered by North Americans. There are a lot of wines from this area of the world that never reach North American tables, which is why a visit to this country is necessary in order to see all of the bottles that it has to offer.


You will find that many Spanish wines are rather pleasant, though they are not the same as those that can be found elsewhere in the world. Many bottles that come from this country tend to include tastes that are complex and surprising, which may be why most North Americans haven’t yet grasped on to these types. Still, if you find yourself looking to travel to Europe, but you aren’t sure where to go, consider a trip to Spain to try all of those wines that you will never taste at home.

Just think of all those sun drenched wine regions of Spain yet to be discovered. Those that are lucky enough to tour a vineyard often find that it is an experience not easily forgotten. Additionally, Spain boasts some of the best food in the world, so you won’t go hungry if you decide upon this trip. To begin exploring possible travel plans, start by selecting a few bottles from your local wine shop. As you taste more and more bottles from this area, you will begin to see how much one wine can differ from region to region.



You may discover that Spanish wines are too harsh for you, or you may discover that you really love them. Either way, this is one country that should not be overlooked.

Learn all you can about the wine regions of Spain by doing a fair amount of research, and then take the time to visit the country if you can. There are so many great wines out there that it may seem overwhelming...but you have to start somewhere.
