Wine Regions of Austria
There are sixteen wine regions of Austria. Still, most of us have never heard of half of them. In order to begin exploring these areas, let’s take a closer look.
Although Austria is a relatively small country, there are some areas that seem to produce excellent wines. Interestingly, most North American wine shops never get any bottles from this country, though they are all worth a few moments of your time. If you happen to find a wine shop that sells bottles from this country, be sure to try all that you can. If not, you can order a few bottles online, though it will probably cost you more. Of course, the other alternative is to visit the regions themselves, which could be a worthwhile trip. Let’s start by talking about those wine regions of Austria specifically.
The areas that produce wine in this country include Wachau, Kremstal, Kamptal, Traisental, Wagram, Weinviertel, Carnuntum, Thermenregion, Neusiedlersee, Neusiedlersee-Hugelland, Mittelburgenland, Sudburgenland, Styria, Sudoststeiermark, Sudsteiermark, Weststeiermark, Vienna, and Bergland. How many of these areas have you heard of before? If you are like most people, you may have heard of one or two, but that’s about it. This is largely due to the fact that many critics do not explore this country too often. Thus, the general population does not know about the wines that come from there.
You won’t find a lot of information regarding the wine regions of Austria, though you can begin to explore these different areas on your own. It might be hard to get started, but the tourism board within this country will be happy to send you lots of brochures and information regarding the wines from this area if you simply ask. Any kind of wine tasting begins with a bit of research and knowledge, so don’t be afraid to ask about those things that you do not know.
You might discover that you love the wines from this country. Then again, you could find out that you do not care for them at all. Either way, at least you will know a bit about them and learn to appreciate them if you just try.
Now that you know what the wine regions of Austria are, you can start to explore on your own. What are you waiting for? A whole world of lovely wines waits!
