Wine Fondue Recipes

There are hundreds of wine fondue recipes to be found on the internet and in various cookbooks. The more important question is: what does the addition of alcohol do to a cheese sauce?

Some people enjoy a splash of kirsch mixed into their gooey cheese, while others wouldn’t add anything other than a fine white wine. While you can certainly melt cheese without the addition of any alcohol whatsoever, there is a distinct taste that a splash of liquor gives to the overall dish. The type of alcohol that you want to add solely depends upon the sort of cheese that you are attempting to melt. Also, it is wise to consider those things that you intend to dip into that cheese. Some wine fondue recipes call for a nice white along with a splash of kirsch... though it’s up to you in the end.

If you are going to be dipping various meats into your cheese, it is a good idea to add some wine to the dish. In this manner, the alcohol will enhance the taste of the cheese altogether, and it will also expertly flavour the meat. Interestingly, some cookbooks include various recipes that will ask you to add other types of alcohol. Really, you must go through all of the cheese types in order to find the one that you appreciate the most. Whatever you do, make sure not to add too much alcohol to the dish.

While a splash of alcohol can add a ton of depth, too much alcohol will simply taint the taste of the cheese. If you do come across some wine fondue recipes that call for a large amount of alcohol, try the recipe out before making it for any larger group. Sometimes, cookbooks include misprints due to poor editing. For the most part, if you stick with a cookbook that is well known, this shouldn’t be an issue.

On a cold winter’s night, nothing is quite as delicious as a nice fondue. If you have never tried this treat, purchase a decent speciality pot prior to melting any cheese. While you can certainly melt cheese in a regular sauce pan, the addition of a specialty pot is a nice touch.

You’ll soon find a wealth of wine fondue recipes if you look hard enough. Go ahead and try out those interesting ones – you never know what kind of unique taste you may come across.
