Parker Rated Wines

Ah, Robert Parker – the wine critic that some love, and some love to hate. If you are curious about parker rated wines, you have come to the right spot.

To begin, let’s start with the basics... the rating system that Parker rated wines go through. The systme is based upon a 50-100 point scale. Those bottles that are placed within the 96-100 category are “extraordinary” bottles. Those that fit into the 90-95 category are “outstanding” bottles. 80-90 marks a wine that is “barely above average to very good;” 70-79 is an “average” wine; 60-69 marks a “below average” bottle; and 50-59 is “unacceptable.”

For those that believe this critic’s tastings to be the definitive voice when it comes to wine, this rating system seems to work fairly well. It is also possible to read his personal notes regarding each bottle that have been reviewed. If you really want to jump inot the reccommendations of this critic, his website points out all those things that make a great bottle, well, great. Otherwise, it is interesting to note the bottles that gain top marks on his site.

Parker rated wines tend to lean heavily towards those bottles that come from the California region. Also, you will find a lot of North American bottles that have gained decent marks. As far as those bottles that come from Europe, this critic seems to have a fondness for all things Bordeaux. Then again, as with anything else, your opinion is the one that counts the most. In short, try the bottles that are reccommended for yourself, then read the reviews that come along with them. This way, you can be sure that you are tasting those things that you truly enjoy.

In every sense, tasting wine is a very personal affair. While there are plenty of people out there that pretend to like everything that has been given a high rating, it is far better to decide for yourself what you love and what you loathe. If you are just beginning to experience bottles from around the world, it never hurts to take a peek at other’s opinions...so long as you form your own.

In the end, Parker rated wines are a great jumping off point if you are new to the wie world. However, it is reccommended that you decide for yourself regarding those bottles that you can’t live without.
