Benefits of Red Wine

Before you reach for that bottle, read about the, possible, benefits of red wine written below. You may discover some things that you didn’t realize before.

The number one question on nearly everyone’s mind is: if I drink wine, will I live longer? Those that have been drinking this alcohol for years suddenly began to jump with joy at the first mention of those studies recently published – you know the ones that state the benefits of red wine? But before you head to the liquor store to stock up, it may be a good idea to read the “fine print” written underneath all of those glorious new studies.

Some experts suggest that drinking the ruby liquid in moderation may protect against heart disease – sounds good, right? Well, this may be true...but it may not be true too. You see, while many are sure that there are lots of great things about wine, some are not so convinced. Those studies conducted took into consideration people that were of mid-age, which may not mean that this drink will work the same wonders for those that are younger. In addition to, potentially, helping to guard against heart disease, it is possible that this alcohol also prevents heart attacks.

Studies that came out after the initial heart research have also suggested that HDL cholesterol (the good one) is raised after consumption, while LDL cholesterol (the bad one) is lowered. The only problem with consuming lots of this liquid is that the benefits of red wine may not outweigh the negative aspects of it. While those that love this sweet elixir were celebrating over the possibility of consuming more of it, there were other studies published that pointed to a problem with excessive drinking.

Drinking alcohol excessively can increase triglycerides, which will result in weight gain. Additionally, some newer studies are showing a mighty strong cancer link between alcohol and cancer. In the end, the American Heart Association suggests that alcohol can be consumed daily if it is kept to one drink per day for women and two drinks per day for men (women have a higher risk of cancer).

While there are some benefits of red wine, there are also some risks that should not be ignored. If you want to drink wine, make sure that it is in moderation – or, just munch on some grapes...they have the same healthy benefits.
